A part of the Technology Track for the conference, the CLE presentation was titled “Social Media: How to Use it to Network and Market Your Practice Without Violating IP Law”.In this twist on the traditional intellectual property presentation, the panel incorporated tips from a business coach on how lawyers can use social media for business and career development with legal discussion related to a lawyers’ use of social media, e.g. how to avoid a claim of copyright or trademark infringement, defamation\/plagiarism, and the risk of potential patent litigation resulting from use of potentially infringing software or an inadvertent disclosure on social media. The presentation included discussion of potential ethics issues and tips regarding, among others, photo\/image use, article writing and dealing with press. Nancy Del Pizzo, Esq. of Rivkin Radler LLP and Chair of NJSBA’s Intellectual Property Committee served as moderator.
